Celebrating exceptional newcomer contributions to Kingston’s economy and community
Kingston, Ontario – February 25, 2025 – Kingston Economic Development and Kingston Immigration Partnership announce that nominations are now open for the 2025 Newcomer Entrepreneur Awards. This third annual awards program recognizes and celebrates the valuable contributions of newcomer entrepreneurs who enrich Kingston’s economy and community.
The Kingston Newcomer Entrepreneur Awards seek to highlight the achievements of exceptional newcomers who have established successful businesses in Kingston and made significant impacts on the local community.
“A fundamental component of entrepreneurship is identifying unique opportunities. Newcomer entrepreneurs bring diverse perspectives and global experiences that spur innovation and inject fresh energy into our local entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Norman Musengimana, Business Development Manager, Start-Ups & Entrepreneurship of Kingston Economic Development Corporation. “By celebrating newcomer entrepreneurs, we not only acknowledge their achievements but also enhance Kingston’s position as a hub for diverse talent and business development, ultimately fostering sustainable economic growth across our region.”
Three distinct awards will be presented to honour different aspects of entrepreneurial excellence:
- Community Builder Award – Recognizes entrepreneurs who have demonstrated strong commitment and contribution to community service
- Start-up Award – Celebrates entrepreneurs whose businesses were established within the past five years
- Inspirational Entrepreneur Award – Honors entrepreneurs who have demonstrated great success and visionary leadership
The awards program underscores Kingston’s commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive community that values diversity and the economic and cultural enrichment newcomers bring.
“We aim to foster a community where newcomers feel welcomed, included, and empowered to share their talents,” said Yu Jier Kou, Program Coordinator, Kingston Immigration Partnership. “These awards recognize newcomer entrepreneurs who have overcome significant challenges to build successful businesses in Kingston. By celebrating their resilience and accomplishments, we hope to inspire others and strengthen the networks that support newcomers in reaching their full potential as active contributors to the community.
Community members are encouraged to nominate deserving newcomer entrepreneurs who have made a positive impact on Kingston’s economy and community. Nominations will be accepted until March 17, 2025. Award recipients will be honoured on April 28, 2025.
