Ontario’s Renewable Energy Procurement Landscape – What Is Happening Now + Why

Lisa Asbreuk will cover several topics on the Ontario Renewable Energy Procurement horizon, including Ontario’s electricity supply and demand looming gap, recent IESO planning outlook documents, distributed energy resources (DERs) and behind the meter (BTM) installations. She will also talk about feelings about utility scale projects in our rural landscape and why is SE Ontario so attractive right now for sitting these projects. Time permitting, she will cover hot topics at local community meetings for local project consultations.

LISA ASBREUK practiced corporate + energy law at McCarthy Tetrault LLP, a leading national law firm in the Toronto and Calgary offices before returning to Kingston in 2010 to raise her family and build an energy law practice in SE Ontario. She dedicates her personal and professional life to trying to work towards sustainable development, enabling clean energy projects, and supporting progressive business owners across industries. She served on the national board of Clean Prosperity for years, including work on major Canadian emissions laws and policies efforts which culminated in the carbon tax which withstood the Supreme Court of Canada challenge, and more recently the federal investment tax credits (ITCs) for clean technology. Lisa was elected to the national board of the Canadian Renewable Energy Industry Association (CANREA) from 2020-2023 and was recently re-elected for another 3 year term until 2026. She is a long-time SWITCH member and supporter and served on the SWITCH Board of Directors for years. She is working with other like minded people to advance big ideas utilising infrastructure and natural resources in our region to help achieve our net-zero ambitions in a cost-effective and socially acceptable manner.
