This workshop focuses on practical strategies to address the growing challenges of retail crime, ensuring a safer environment for both staff and customers.

Workshop Objectives:

De-escalation Techniques: Learn proven methods to manage and defuse confrontations with potentially disruptive individuals, such as those who are suspicious or intoxicated. Participants will gain actionable insights to reduce tension and maintain safety during challenging interactions.

Roles and Responsibilities: Understand the distinct roles of management and staff in preventing and addressing retail crime. The session will explore how teamwork and clear communication can mitigate risks effectively.

Policy Development and Risk Assessment: Discover the importance of establishing essential policies and conducting ongoing risk assessments to proactively address safety concerns. These tools empower businesses to create a secure and well-prepared retail environment.

By the end of this workshop, participants will have the knowledge and tools to implement effective crime prevention and de-escalation strategies tailored to their retail settings.

About Zoïe Sutherland:

Zoie Sutherland is an Account Representative (Small Business) at Workplace Safety & Prevention Services, she brings over twenty-five years of expertise in health and safety. She collaborates with various community organizations in northeastern Ontario to promote the straightforward safety solutions offered by WSPS. Her primary goal is to equip Small Business Owners with accessible tools and resources, helping them embark on their journey towards health and safety.
