Dr. Murray will deliver insights into the 2018 edition of the business forecast lunch and how these key aspects came to grow over the past 6 years.
12:25 – 12:40pm: Global Economic Forecast with Dr. David Detomasi
Dr. Detomasi will present the global economic forecast, shedding light on international trends and geopolitical factors influencing markets worldwide.
12:40 – 12:55pm: National Economic Forecast with Charles Zhang
Charles Zhang, CEO of Queen’s University Investment Club and BComm ’25, leverages finance experience at Morgan Stanley to forecast Canada’s economic trends.
12:55 – 1:10pm: The Future of Artificial Intelligence with Dr. Tracy Jenkin
Dr. Jenkin will discuss the future of AI, examining human-AI collaboration and its transformative impact on business, innovation, and ethical implementation.
1:10 – 1:25pm: Employee Ownership Trusts with Justine Janssen
Justine Janssen, Co-Founder of CommonShares, will introduce a new system to help Canadian businesses transition their assets through employee ownership, boosting performance and local economies.
1:25 – 1:30pm: Closing Remarks

About Dr. Elspeth Murray:
Dr. Murray, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Smith School of Business, served as Associate Dean (2012-2022) and holds the CIBC Fellowship in Entrepreneurship. She founded Smith’s Centre for Business Venturing and directs the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Social Impact. An expert in managing change, she co-authored Fast Forward: Organizational Change in 100 Days and developed the Analytics Climate Assessment Tool (ACAT). Dr. Murray consults widely, teaches in MBA and Executive Education programs, and advises startups. She holds degrees in computer science, mathematics, an MBA from Queen’s, and a doctorate from Ivey.
About Dr. David Detomasi:
Dr. Detomasi, Professor & Distinguished Teaching Fellow of International Business at Smith School of Business, holds a PhD in Political Studies from Queen’s University and has specialized training from Harvard’s Kennedy School. His research focuses on globalization, geopolitics, and governance, with his forthcoming book, Profits, Power and Petroleum, examining oil’s economic role. He teaches strategy and global competition, has led executive programs internationally, and frequently contributes insights to major media outlets like The Toronto Star and CBC.
About Charles Zhang:
Charles Zhang, CEO of the Queen’s University Investment Club, Canada’s premier undergraduate investment fund, presents a forward-looking national economic forecast. Drawing on his extensive experience in the finance industry, including roles at Morgan Stanley, Charles offers insights into anticipated economic trends and shifts in the coming year. As a BComm Class of ’25 student with a strong foundation in investment and economic analysis, he is uniquely positioned to shed light on the factors likely to shape Canada’s economic landscape.
About Dr. Tracy Jenkin:
Dr. Jenkin, an Associate Professor at Smith School of Business and Faculty Affiliate at the Vector Institute for AI, researches human-AI collaboration, cognitive processes, data analytics, and green IT. Her work is published in top journals such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, and Decision Sciences. With a PhD in Management (MIS) and a background in Computer Science from Queen’s University, Dr. Jenkin teaches analytics, AI, and agile project management. She previously spent a decade in the IT industry, working with companies like Accenture and Dell across diverse sectors, including telecom, finance, and high-tech.
