Kingston Economic Development Corporation invites you to the Project Arrow showcase on Wednesday, August 14, at Springer Market Square from noon to 2 PM. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Kingston’s contributions to the EV industry and meet industry leaders.
Kingston is proud to be welcoming Project Arrow, Canada’s first all-Canadian, zero-emission concept vehicle, designed, engineered, and built through the collaborative efforts of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association (APMA) and over 58 industry partners.
Kingston’s region, is rapidly establishing itself as a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain through a robust ecosystem of innovative companies and strategic investments.
Key Players and Innovations
Cyclic Materials and Ucore are developing technologies for recycling magnets, essential for EV motors. Their initiatives solidify Kingston’s reputation as a hub for Rare Earth Elements processing.
Li-Cycle is at the forefront of lithium battery recycling, focusing on recovering critical minerals. Originally piloted in Kingston, Li-Cycle’s global presence emphasizes the city’s potential in developing and scaling up technologies that progress the circular economy.
Umicore, a global leader in battery materials, plans to establish a battery materials manufacturing facility in Loyalist to produce cathode materials, completing a vital link in North America’s EV battery supply chain.
Educational and Support Ecosystem
The region’s educational institutions, particularly Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College, are enhancing programs to prepare a skilled workforce for the EV sector.
Kingston Process Metallurgy Inc. (KPM) plays a crucial role in this ecosystem by providing process development and optimization services to chemical, mining, and metallurgical industries. KPM collaborates with startups, offering targeted lab work and techno-economic studies that guide the commercialization of innovative technologies.
GreenCentre Canada complements these efforts by providing technical support and validation services for startups, fostering innovation in battery materials and recycling technologies.
Contribution to Net-Zero Goals
Aligned with Canada’s net-zero targets by 2050, Kingston’s initiatives in EV technology and recycling are crucial. The region is actively attracting investments and creating jobs in the cleantech sector, with expectations of generating more than 1,500 new positions in the next five years.
Global Impact
Technologies developed in Kingston are not only meeting local demands but are also being exported globally, influencing the EV landscape worldwide.
